Biblical Unitarians Criticized

On a recent Dividing Line program Dr. James White the foremost Reformed debater of our day criticized Anthony Buzzard and Servetus the Evangelical for their non-trinitarian beliefs. The clip is about 15 minutes long. It gives a window into how we are perceived by the wider evangelical world.

To read Servetus’ response, click here and then find the link titled, “James White Continues to Speak Foolishly.” I wonder if these two will have an opportunity to publicly debate. I don’t think Dr. White has debated a biblical unitarian before.

I have listened to a few debates by James White. One, vs Nadir Ahmed, White piously expressed his disgust at Mr. Ahmed’s appalling behaviour (which it indeed was), but now White is doing exactly the same.

Apparently White is becoming one of the monsters he is trying to slay. If their is one thing he learnt from debating JW apologetics, it is becoming Watchtoweresque par excellence, complete with his ad hominem insults and all.

How clever can you get? If I use the expression Barbarian in describing a person, can I turn around and say that I used it the way First Century Christians did, referring to native Maltese who, to the Christians, spoke “Bar-bar?” Obviously not! The lexical shift happened centuries ago, and virtually no-one will understand it that way. That would reveal a very grim side of my character.

Now, Mr White uses the derogatory term apostate freely. Who would understand that term to refer to one who merely changed his religion? The context of White’s comments are judgmental and condescending. If, as White claims, he is merely referring to one who changed his religion, why didn’t he use the term convert? Who is he trying to bluff?

Well, any defender of human tradition will be scared. We’re not scared of Biblical truth, and we can defend it superbly. We only have our Hero to defend and not some pseudo-messiah like Calvin the Murderer. White can insult and maybe build a case with all kinds of novel fallacious attempts, we merely speak the pure language of Truth.

I don’t think Dr. White has debated a biblical unitarian before.

    Pick me!!!

Well, White threw down the gauntlet for a public debate with Buzzard, hope he takes the challenge. Thing is, this White guy [no pun intended] is so rude and belittling. Very sarcastic tone towards others doesn’t help a good debate.
