Videos from Last Night’s Class

We have been working on our video capabilities at Living Hope Community Church. Here are two videos from last night’s Exploring Scripture class. Blake Cortright is still ironing out the glitches in the live video mix.

I wanted to test out the embed code for these videos. Please let me know if these videos do not work in your browser. Also feel free to leave any cinematography advice in the comments below (I’ll be sure Blake gets them).

Restoration Fellowship has done it again with, The Forgotten Gospel, a 53 minute documentary. The gospel is the proclamation that Jesus and his followers made from town to town. If one repents and believes in the gospel his or her sins are wiped away and they begin to follow the narrow path whose end is the kingdom of God. Needless to say, getting the gospel right is the first priority of Bible study, because our very salvation depends on it. Yet, the gospel has been mutilated and the part that has been cut out is what Jesus preached–the kingdom of God. So far as I understand it, the gospel has three major elements:

A Humorous Music Video

The famous “Jesus Take the Wheel” song redone by Christian comedian Tim Hawkins as “Cletus Take the Reel.” Very amusing.

I’m not sure how many of you have heard of Justin Brierley’s radio show called Unbelievable, but I’ve really enjoyed it for some time now. Each week he has a Christian and a non-Christian on the show to have discussion on critical issues. He’s had some pretty big name Christian thinkers on, and since the show is an hour and twenty minutes long, often the conversation is quite detailed.

As a year end special he pulled together a show where he deviated from his normal format in order to bring together some of the best interviews from 2008. Here is the description:

Musical Marriage Counseling

The Don’t Song…a must for all men who struggle with their marriages.

Today I had the pleasure of speaking with Carlos Jimenez of Sydney, Australia, a student at MacQuarie University. He shared his amazing journey to faith from agnosticism to Christianity. Along the way he began studying about the doctrine of the Trinity and its effects on our Christian history. At one point he asked his pastor if the church confessed belief in the Trinity and found out that they did not believe that Jesus was God. This pleased Carlos because through his own studies he had already come to this sound doctrine.

Despite the constant articulation of the not-by-works nature of the gospel by Protestants for half a millennium, the average person on the street still thinks that they will “pass” the judgment because they aren’t as bad as others or because they have done more good deeds than bad ones. Though this video leaves out much it does also express the concept of substitution rather well.

What would you agree with? What would you disagree with in this video? If you were to do the video over what changes would you make?

Tell Me The Story

Great song and the dance really captures the message. What a story we have – the gospel from Creation to the New Creation literally within the planet and also beginning with God’s Covenant people today.

Video from Living Hope International Ministries’ 2008 Family Camp. Powerful words and imagery.

Though the video above is humorous, it strikes a convicting chord because it points out our tendency to forget and marginalize God. We fill our lives with so many people, so many events, and so many things that we have no time left over for God. Even for those of us in full time ministry, it is a constant battle to not substitute the work of God for actually spending time with God. Even so, the Scripture is very pointed on how God feels about “competitors.” Please consider the following verses:

A campaign promise ought to contain some benefit for the voter, shouldn’t it? Well, here are a few promises our Father has made and I think we can call it good considering the source:

Psa 2:10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

Psa 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

Psa 2:12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when

his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
