Over the holidays I was at my father-in-law’s house and we were talking about the new “one God” books that had just been released. As we spoke it became clear that it was hard to keep them all straight (since there are now so many). As a result of this conversation I decided to put together a list of books that specifically address the idea of Christian monotheism. Perhaps this post will be of help to those looking to research this topic in the future. Let me know if I missed any. (These books are ordered alphabetically by the author’s last name)

Dr. Michael Brown
Kermit Zarley

Next Tuesday, January 12th, from 3-4pm EST, Kermit Zarley (Servetus the Evangelical) will be debating Dr. Michael Brown on the Line of Fire radio show. Dr. Brown is an evangelical author and activist who specializes in discussing Jewish-Christian relations (he grew up Jewish and converted to Christianity). This will be Mr. Zarley’s first official debate (to my knowledge) since the publication of his book The Restitution of Jesus Christ which is available at his website. To listen to the debate live go to The Truth Radio Network website on Tuesday at 3:00 pm and click on the “on air” icon at the top. The show will likely be archived on Dr. Brown’s website: lineoffireradio.askdrbrown.org.

On a recent Dividing Line program Dr. James White the foremost Reformed debater of our day criticized Anthony Buzzard and Servetus the Evangelical for their non-trinitarian beliefs. The clip is about 15 minutes long. It gives a window into how we are perceived by the wider evangelical world.

To read Servetus’ response, click here and then find the link titled, “James White Continues to Speak Foolishly.” I wonder if these two will have an opportunity to publicly debate. I don’t think Dr. White has debated a biblical unitarian before.

I ran across this paper on Adam Pastor’s web site “Adoni Messiah“.  And it has a connection back to kingdomready in that the author of the paper was a presenter at the 2005 & 2006 One God Conferences that our own Sean Finnegan also attended.  Small world indeed. Speaking of which, Sean has the audio of the author presenting this very paper on the Christian Monotheism site at this link.

I recently attended a Women’s Conference and heard the Woman’s Minister say the following line, “Make your messes into your ministry and turn your pain into your passion.” And inside my heart, I knew that no truer statement could have been said about my life thus far. You see, about three years ago, my husband and I were attending a local church when our eldest son expressed his desire to be baptized. We were thrilled of course about his decision, so we phoned the youth pastor to tell him that our son wanted to be baptized the following Sunday. A few days later, we found ourselves sitting on our sofa, in our own living room, being quizzed and confronted with our beliefs.

I thought this recent posting by Michael Bird at his blog Euangelion was quite interesting from a Unitarian understanding of the Scriptures.

How Divine Were ANE Kings?
I’m reading through J.J. Collins and A.Y. Collins King and Messiah as Son of God and am enjoying it very much (I wish I had this book a year or two ago!). I’ve always enjoyed John Collins’ work on Daniel and the rise of messianism. This book looks more explicitly at the links between divinity and messianism.

A while back (a year ago, in fact) there was a long debate on this site about the Trinity, starting with the posting of a debate between Brant Bosserman and Sean Finnegan at the One God Conference.  The comments continued for a couple of months, and the thread was picked up again a few times since then, the most recent being February of this year.  One of the better arguments brought up by the Trinitarians was that Jesus said in John 2:19, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”  This is taken by Trinitarians to mean that Jesus raised himself from the dead.

One of our human frailties is our inability to hear the text of Scripture. More precisely, we have difficulty in hearing what the Bible says when we have been propagandized into a different opinion. We then start with a fixed notion and enter a kind of “denial” when we read verses which obviously conflict with our belief. The classic example is this:

While churches and ministries unite under the conviction that “there is One God existing eternally in three Persons,” Paul thought otherwise. It is surprising that Bible readers do not hear the difference between

I recently received this email from a pastor in Malaysia:

I m Pastor Ng from the Christian Disciples Church, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We are a small independent evengelical church which had recently ( a year ago) changed our stand from trinitarianism to biblical monotheism just as you have stated in your statement of faith.

I started questioning trinity despite having taught it for close to 15 years, when my teacher and the founder of our church Pastor Eric Chang received this new revelation about the truth on the only true God and taught it to us about a year ago. Right now I have no doubts that there is only one God Yahweh and one Lord Jesus Christ.
