Notes:

Ephesians 2:1 Inescapably clear are the desperate need and universal sinfulness of humanity.

Dead - no spiritual life. Romans 6:23; 7:10 and 24; Colossians 2:13

Ephesians 2:2 According to the course of this world - a whole social value-system which is alien to God

Luke 22:3; John 13:2 and 27; Acts 5:3

Ephesians 2:3 Lusts of the flesh - the longings and impulses of the self-centered life

Romans 8:4-9; Galatians 5:16-21

Desires of the flesh and mind signify the effect on human life of evil and selfishness are not limited to the emotions but embrace intellect and reasoning processes as well.

Children of wrath - the judgment of God

Ephesians 2:4-10 Given the state of man, the only possible way for salvation is the grace of God.

Verses 11 and 12 We cannot afford to forget where and who we were.

Verse 13 We are brought near by the blood of Christ.

Ephesians 2:14 Peace between Jews and Gentiles

Verse 15 Jesus opened the way to God.

Verse 19 Not strangers and aliens, but citizens in God's household

Ephesians 2:22 We are God's dwelling place.
