Notes:

I Samuel 16:1, 12 and 13 David was anointed to be King over Israel.

I Samuel 24:2 Saul had three thousand chosen men. David had about 400 motley discontents. I Samuel 22:2

I Samuel 24:4 His men encouraged him to kill Saul.

Verse 6 He refused to compromise, although he was tempted to by all his men. Saul had compromised in the past because of what the people wanted.

Verse 11 Saul was his father-in-law.

Verse 13 Jesus said the same in Matthew 7:16-20.

I Samuel 24:14 David considered himself to be insufficient.

Verse 20 Samuel told Saul (I Samuel 13:14). Jonathan his son, the rightful heir, also knew David was to be the King (I Samuel 23:17).

Psalm 57:1-11 Written regarding the same event. David trusted God.

Psalm 142:1-7 Rather then controlling his own destiny, he trusted God.

I Samuel 26:1-25 David again spares Saul because of his commitment to God and his unwillingness to compromise.

Philippians 4:6-9 Anxiety tempts us to depend on ourselves rather than to trust in God.
