Luke 22:17-20 Two aspects of Communion: 1) the bread relates to his suffering and death, 2) the wine relates to the new covenant which will be fulfilled when he returns.

I Corinthians 11:26 " proclaim the Lord's death until He comes."

The Death

Romans 5:10 Reconciled to God through the death of His Son

Romans 6:3-5 Old is dead with Christ; now, we walk in newness of life

Verses 10 and 11 Died for our sins

Ephesians 2:15-19 Through death, destroyed the enmity

Colossians 1:22 Reconciled, holy, blameless, and beyond reproach

Hebrews 2:9-15 Through death, rendered powerless the devil

Hebrews 9:15 and 16 Redemption, eternal inheritance

I Peter 2:24; 3:18 Righteousness

Until He Comes

The wine signifies the blood which was shed on the cross ratifying the New Covenant. When we drink the wine, we proclaim our commitment to fulfill the covenant by accepting the Lordship of Christ. We renew our commitment.
