Notes:

2 Peter 1:3, 20, and 21 The Word of God is truth, and the worldly common view is not.

Romans 1:4
Jesus did many things that showed the world that he was the Son of God, but his resurrection is the irrefutable, certain, guaranteed proof.

Colossians 1:18
Jesus was the first person resurrected from the dead. Others were brought back to life but died again. No one else has been resurrected yet.

Acts 2:25-36
David died, was buried, and stayed in the grave; but Jesus died, was placed in a tomb, and was raised up from the dead.

Ecclesiastes 9:5, 6 and 10
The dead do not know anything. Sheol is from Hebrew used in the OT, and Hades is from Greek used in the NT. Both mean the place of the dead, the kingdom of the grave.

Psalm 6:4 and 5
No mention of You in death

Psalm 30:9; 115:17
The dead cannot praise or declare.

Psalm 146:4
Thoughts perish

The normal traditional view is that at death the human soul or spirit lives on (either in Heaven or in hell or some other intermediate state) pending the final judgment of God. Soul-immortality entered Christianity, not through Scripture, but from ancient Greek philosophy, profoundly influenced by Plato, 428- 348 B.C.

The primary metaphor used to describe death in the Scriptures is “sleep,” which connotes the ideas of inactivity and unconsciousness.

Psalm 13:3; Acts7:60, 13:36, and 1 Corinthians 15:17-20

1 Corinthians 15:20-23
Jesus is the first-fruit of those of faith who will be raised when he returns.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17
