Jesus was not multifaith!

Jesus of Nazareth is the Promised Messiah, That Prophet, spoken of by Moses. [Deut 18:15,18-19; John 6:14; Acts 3:23]

As such, he was commissioned by Almighty God to speak all the words that God commanded him to speak.

As such, Jesus was not multifaith!

That is, he never had an anything-goes attitude;
He did not subscribe to “you can worship whom you like, all roads lead to the same God“;
He did not have “it is all the Same God anyway” approach!!

Why? Because he knows the opposite to Life; and if one does not obey his God and worship his God in spirit and in truth [John 4:24]; one will surely perish i.e. will not receive Life in the Age to come.

To receive life is to receive Salvation

Jesus proclaimed to the Samaritan woman …

  • (John 4:21-23) Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

The phrase Ye worship ye know not whatsounds very similar to :-
TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. [Acts 17.23]

Jesus was a Jew and is a Jew. He was not saying that Jews are automatically saved!

(No way! One simply as to read and compare Matt 8:11-12, 21.43; John 8:37,39; Matt 3:9, Luke 3:8; to realize this is not the case.)

What he was saying is that when it comes to Salvation; the Jews worship the one and only true God. Therefore, their God and His words (i.e. the Jewish Scriptures, the Hebrew Bible); are the source of Salvation.

Out of all the so-called gods (cp. 1 Cor 8:4,6) the God of the Hebrews [Exo 3:18] is the only true God [Jer 10:10]; there is no other God or Saviour besides Him! [Isa 43:10-12, 45:21, Hosea 13:4]. This God also committed His words, His oracles, to the Jewish nation. [Rom 3:2]

God Almighty is exclusively One! He has no competition. He has no rivals. He alone ought to be worshipped and feared/revered as God. Without Him one cannot be saved. One must come to Him and Him alone for Salvation i.e. Life in the Coming Age.

Therefore, the one and only true God raised up Moses; and revealed to Moses; that He would raise up one, ultimate special Prophet who would exclusively speak the saving words of God; so that irrespective of one’s background; if one listens and obeys That Prophet one will be saved!!

  • (Deu 18:15) Yahweh thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;
  • (Deu 18:18-19) I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. 19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Many people sadly say, Jesus must be God, because of the way he spoke. No one could speak like that unless he was God!
Not so!
Jesus spoke the way that he spoke, because he was commissioned to speak exclusively the saving words of God Almighty!

He dared not speak his own words; he dared not teach his own doctrines; because only God’s words can save! Only God has the words of salvation. Only by obeying God’s words can one have ‘Life in the Coming Age’.

Hence, Jesus did not speak of himself; he spoke the words that God gave him to speak pertaining to mankind’s salvation.

  • (John 5:24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
  • (John 8:26) … he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
  • (John 8:40) … a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: …
  • (John 14:10) Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
  • (John 7:16-18) Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
  • (John 12:48-50) He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. 49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: [i.e. Life in the Coming Age] whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.

Can you see the emphasis that Christ had on the words that he spoke? And the emphasis was not because he spoke his own words; but rather because he spoke the words of God, his Father; he spoke what he had heard of God!

Therefore, Jesus went on to say …

  • (John 17:3) And this is life eternal [Life in the Coming Age],
    that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
    (cp John 5:24 above)

These are exclusive claims.

Jesus of Nazareth proclaimed that his God is the only true God.
He proclaimed to the Samaritan that the Jews worship this only true God, so one must come to the God of the Jews via the scriptures committed to the Jews for salvation.

When it comes to these scriptures, Jesus proclaimed …

  • (John 5:39-40) Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
  • (John 5:45-47) Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust. 46 For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me. 47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

So the Jewish Scriptures point to both the One True God and to the One Prophet which God has authorized to speak saving words.

But as shown in the above verses, this did not guarantee that ethnic Jews would automatically be saved, just because they believed in the One True God. No! Irrespective of whether Jew or Gentile, one must believe and obey the One God, by believing and obeying the words spoken by the one exclusive Representative which the One God has ordained & authorized,
Jesus the Messiah!

Jesus the Messiah is the One Way, the One Door to the One God [John 14:6, 10:9]
Through belief & obedience to him and only him, can one have access to the One God.

You cannot have one without the other.
You cannot choose to believe in God and reject His Prophet/Messiah and expect Salvation.
Neither can one claim to believe on Jesus yet reject his God and expect Salvation.

Expounding on Deut 18:15, 18-19; Peter stated …

  • (Acts 3:20-23) And he [God] shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul [person], which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

Can we see why it was so important for Jesus to exclusively speak the words of God when it comes to mankind’s salvation? Because if one does not believe on the one true God and hear/obey His exclusive agent; one will not receive life; rather, one will be destroyed!! Ouch!!

I guess Peter wasn’t into multifaith either!

So, there is solely ONE GOD. He has authorized ONE man to speak His saving words; this man, Jesus of Nazareth, was truly obedient and did not speak of himself, but spoke all that God gave him to speak.
He was so obedient even in death; that God raised him from among the dead; gave him immortality and has made him, ‘Lord of all’ [Acts 2:36, 10:36]

Let us therefore, also take heed to the instructions of the apostles that Christ had authorized [Acts 1:2, 2 Pet 3:2], for example:

  • let us consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ [1 Tim 6:3]
  • and exhort & tell all to … turn to God from idols to serve the living and true God; 10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, … [1 Thess. 1:9-10]
