Introductory Remarks

When we first started kingdomready.org we developed a static website which combined ministry related content with web resources primarily focused on evangelism. Our motto was and continue to be “helping people to get ready for the kingdom.” However, once people had sufficiently explored the website (usually after about a week) we noticed that for many there was not a need or desire to continue visiting the site (other than once a week to download the Sunday sermon or watch the web-cast). At this point I asked JohnnyO what we could do to increase traffic and bring more people in. He suggested that what people are looking for is not merely static content but a changing website where people could interact through conversation. We discussed the various ways that this was done (message boards, guest books, blogs, podcasts, etc.) and decided that the mechanism that best suited our needs was to have a blog. The original conception was simple: we wanted to have a section of kingdomready that was alive and changing on a regular basis. It was (and still is) our desire to have a new blog post every other day. Beyond this, we did not really have guidelines in place for what the blog posts should contain.

I am very excited to have started a brand new radio show last Sunday (Jan. 4, 2009) called Truth Matters. (Thanks Victor for coming up with that catchy name). Truth Matters is hosted by me (Sean Finnegan) and broadcasts on WHAZ in the Capital Region of New York. The purpose of the show is to pursue biblical truth no matter where it leads. This is done through interviews and conversation with guests (a different one each week). The show will air each Sunday morning at 9:00 am and cover the following areas:

WHAZ AM 1330
Albany, Rensselaer, Troy,

WBAR FM 94.7
Glens Falls, Lake George, Saratoga

Isolated Members Ministry

by Mark E. DeYoung

The Isolated Members Ministry (IMM) is a project of the Church of God General Conference that seeks to identify and minister to people with a tie to the Church of God and its teachings who do not live near to any congregation holding to these truths.

The IMM’s Case Statement is:
“There have always been a significant number of isolated members that share a like precious faith and common heritage with the Church of God. They have spiritual needs that cannot all be met by churches of other denominations that may be in their area. The Isolated Members Ministry purpose is to identify isolated members of the Church of God, discover their needs, and develop strategies for meeting those needs. The Isolated Member Ministry invites pastors and churches join with the IMM to seek out and bless the lives of isolated Church of God people.”

Haiti Devastated

I just received this email from David Krogh, who is a leader in Lord’s Harvest International (the missionary wing of the Church of God Abrahamic Faith). They been actively working in Haiti spreading the gospel of the kingdom and the creed of Jesus for years and there are a number of churches there connected with their ministry. (For more on the COG’s work in Haiti, click here). The saints there are in dire need. Here is what their Haiti contact said (please note, the pictures were originally attachments, I inserted them in the email body):

Each month ChristianAudio.com offers a free audio book download. This month (which is soon to end) the featured item is Brother Laurence’s Practicing the Presence of God unabridged. To download it click the link below:

In a few weeks, June 6-8, we will be having an evangelism conference at Living Hope in Latham, NY. All are welcome to attend and can register online (click here). It should be a great time to dig in to the Scriptures to understand the biblical gospel and how it was preached. Then we will be working on the question of how to preach the same message in the context of 21st century western civilization. So far our schedule is as follows:

Schedule For The Weekend

 Friday evening (7:00-9:30pm)
Session 1 -> Defining the Biblical Gospel (part one) — Sean Finnegan
     [refreshment break]
Session 2 -> Defining the Biblical Gospel (part two) — Victor Gluckin

I’ve been a bit steeped into the conference lately, having written all those stream-of-conscience reviews of the papers.  I was particularly struck by Ray Faircloth’s paper on predestination in Romans 9.  It gave a very vivid and nuanced understanding of predestination based on the three metaphors/stories in the chapter.  I would encourage all to check out the lecture and paper, as I would for all the presentations.  Lennox’s presentation was also very pointed and well done.  Between his and Chuck Jones, the conference was well balanced with pertinent pastoral information as well as theological truth.

Many of you may remember that Living Hope Community Church (Albany, NY) sponsored the One God Conference last year (click here for last year’s audios). This year the One God Conference will be held in Seattle, Washington from May 31 – June 1 (Saturday & Sunday). This is the seventh annual seminar which has focused on investigating the nature of the One God and His Son. Please attend what may be the most challenging and biblically informative meetings you have ever experienced. Twelve seminars will be presented from a variety of specialists on the most important topic a human could possibly study: Who is God and What is He like? Seminars will run from 8:30 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday. The location this year is the Embassy Suites Hotel-Seattle, 15920 W. Valley Hwy, Seattle (near the Sea-Tac International Airport). Click here for more details on this year’s conference from Ken Westby’s website. Though the conference will focus on issues related to biblical unitarianism, each year Ken does invite an opposition speaker to spice things up and keep us unitarians sharp.

This year there will be two theological conferences put on by people who share our understanding of God, Jesus, and the gospel of the kingdom.

The first is the 17th annual Theological Conference put on by Sir Anthony Buzzard and Restoration Fellowship. It will be held at Simpsonwood Conference Center in Norcross, GA (transportation from the airport is provided). The conference starts in the early evening on Sunday, April 27th and ends at lunch on Wednesday, April 30th. Conference speakers include Sir Anthony Buzzard, Chuck Jones, Jesse Acuff, Sean Finnegan, possibly Alex Hall, possibly John Obelenus, and others. more information here
