3: Our Hope in View Part 1

Eternal Life

1 John 2:25   This is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.

John 3:36   “He who believes in the Son has eternal life…

John 5:24-29   The word “eternal” is translated from the Greek aionios, meaning ages, and the word “life” is from the Greek zoe. “Eternal life” = life in the age to come or ages’ life.  A comprehensive definition of zoe is the absolute fullness of life that is real and genuine, active and vigorously devoted to God.

John 6:40   “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”

John 11:25-26   Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.”

Life in the age to come does not begin when a person dies, rather when Jesus comes back and resurrection occurs. The dead sleep until the new age begins.

John 17:1   This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

The word “know” is Greek ginosko that means to know through personal experience. We will experience a first-hand acquaintance with Yahweh and Jesus. Eternal life is more than just a duration of time but also a quality of time.

Revelation 21:1-5

1 Corinthians 13:12   For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known.

Ezekiel 37:27   “My dwelling place also will be with them; and I will be their God, and they will be My people.

Ezekiel 48:35   “The city shall be 18,000 cubits round about; and the name of the city from that day shall be, ‘Yahweh is there.’”

Joy

Psalm 16:11   In God’s presence is the fullness of joy and pleasures forever. We experience moments today, but then it will be in every moment of every day forever.

Isaiah 12:1-6

Isaiah 14:7   When the last oppressive world empire ends and theocracy prevails, the whole world will have rest, quiet, and joy forever more.

Isaiah 26:19   Your dead will live; their corpses will rise. You who lie in the dust, awake and shout for joy, for your dew is as the dew of the dawn, and the earth will give birth to the departed spirits.

Isaiah 35:4-6, 10   Say to those with anxious heart, “Take courage, fear not. Behold, your God will come with vengeance; the recompense of God will come, but He will save you.” Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute will shout for joy. For waters will break forth in the wilderness and streams in the Arabah.

And the ransomed of Yahweh will return and come with joyful shouting to Zion, with everlasting joy upon their heads. They will find gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Isaiah 44:22-23   “I have wiped out your transgressions like a thick cloud and your sins like a heavy mist. Return to Me, for I have redeemed you.” Shout for joy, O heavens, for Yahweh has done it! Shout joyfully, you lower parts of the earth; break forth into a shout of joy, you mountains, O forest, and every tree in it; for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob and in Israel He shows forth His glory.

Luke 15:10   “In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Isaiah 51:11   So the ransomed of Yahweh will return and come with joyful shouting to Zion, and everlasting joy will be on their heads. They will obtain gladness and joy, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.

Peace

Isaiah 55:11-12   So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. “For you will go out with joy and be led forth with peace; the mountains and the hills will break forth into shouts of joy before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Isaiah 9:6-7   For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over His kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of Yahweh of hosts will accomplish this.

Isaiah 32:17-18   And the work of righteousness will be peace, and the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever. Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation, and in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places;

Isaiah 54:10   “For the mountains may be removed and the hills may shake, but My lovingkindness will not be removed from you, and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says Yahweh who has compassion on you.

Isaiah 57:18-19   “I have seen his ways, but I will heal him; I will lead him and restore comfort to him and to his mourners, creating the praise of the lips. Peace, peace to him who is far and to him who is near,” Says Yahweh, “and I will heal him.”

New Bodies

Daniel 12:13   “But as for you, go your way to the end; then you will enter into rest and rise again for your allotted portion at the end of the age.”

Philippians 3:20-21   For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44, 49-53

1 Corinthians 15:49 (ESV)   Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven.

1 Corinthians 15:42-44   So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

New Heavens and New Earth

Isaiah 65:17; 66:22; and Revelation 21:1   God promises new heavens and a new earth.

Isaiah 51:3   Indeed, Yahweh will comfort Zion; He will comfort all her waste places. And her wilderness He will make like Eden, and her desert like the garden of Yahweh; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and sound of a melody.

Isaiah 40:4   Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: deserts and wilderness will flourish with water and vegetation.

Isaiah 35:7   And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

Isaiah 41:18 and 19   “I will open rivers on the bare heights and springs in the midst of the valleys; I will make the wilderness a pool of water and the dry land fountains of water. “I will put the cedar in the wilderness, the acacia and the myrtle and the olive tree; I will place the juniper in the desert together with the box tree and the cypress,

Isaiah 43:19   Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.

When Christ reigns as King upon the earth, the weapons of war will be burned with fire for seven years.

Ezekiel 39:9   Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will go out and make fires with the weapons and burn them, both shields and bucklers, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears, and for seven years they will make fires of them.

All war will end; there will be a multilateral disarmament; and the weapons will be molded into tools of agriculture.

Isaiah 2:4   And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Micah 4:3   And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Isaiah 11:6-9   And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little boy will lead them. Also the cow and the bear will graze, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. The nursing child will play by the hole of the cobra, and the weaned child will put his hand on the viper’s den. They will not hurt or destroy in all My holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of Yahweh as the waters cover the sea.
