Israel’s Hope

By Vince Finnegan

The biological descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob inherited a covenant with Yahweh they failed to keep; however, God has never wavered from His promises within this covenant. Israel not only failed to fulfill the covenant, they fought against God’s Son, the Messiah, and rejected Yahweh’s plan of redemption. They became enemies of the Christian church.  From the standpoint of the gospel, they [Israel] are enemies for your sake, but from the standpoint of God's choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers [Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob]; for the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable [Romans 11:28-29].

In spite of their infidelity, Yahweh assures in the end, Israel will receive all that He promised.

Genesis 17:2-9   The basis of Israel’s hope started with their father Abraham.

  • I will multiply you exceedingly.
  • You will be the father of a multitude of nations.
  • Kings will come forth from you.
  • I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your descendants after you.
  • I will give to you and to your descendants after you, the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession
  • I will be their God."

Hebrews 6:13-20   The Abrahamic Covenant has not yet been fulfilled, but God assures that it will.

1 Chronicles 17:1-15   Another major aspect of Israel’s hope is found in the covenant Yahweh made with David called the Davidic Covenant.

  • I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and not be moved again.
  • The wicked will not waste them anymore as formerly.
  • I will subdue all your enemies.
  • Yahweh will build a house for you.
  • I will set up one of your descendants after you, who will be of your sons; and I will establish his kingdom.
  • He shall build for Me a house, and I will establish his throne forever.
  • I will be his Father and he shall be My son.
  • I will not take My lovingkindness away from him.
  • I will settle him in My house and in My kingdom forever.
  • His throne shall be established forever.

Psalm 89:3, 4, 29-37   God guarantees that the Davidic covenant, like the Abrahamic covenant, will certainly be fulfilled.

Deuteronomy 7:6-9; 10:14-15   Yahweh loved Israel and chose them above all others to be His own.

Israel failed to love Yahweh and to remain faithful to Him. They constantly broke the covenant and refused to follow His commands.

Ezekiel 16:1-63   Because of their sinfulness, God removed His glory from the temple and Jerusalem.

Hosea 1:9   They became Lo-Ammi - “for you are not My people and I am not your God."

Hosea 3:1-5   To this very day, Israel does not have a king and certainly not King David, nor are they able to worship according to the law because there is no temple. The temple in Jerusalem is essential for their worship, but, today, a Muslim Mosque occupies the temple location. The temple was destroyed in 70AD, never to be rebuilt.

Micah 4:9-13   The Israelites are still in Babylon, that is the ungodly world. Yahweh’s glory is no longer in Jerusalem; however, He promises to bring them back some day. Micah 7:18-20

Romans 11:7-12, 25-32; Isaiah 29:9-13

Zachariah 2:1-13; 6:12-13; 8:1-15

Psalm 132:13-14   For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it.

Revelation 14:1   Until this vision, the Lamb was seen only in heaven. Here, we see Jesus has returned to earth and is standing on Mount Zion. With him are 144,000 Jews referred to earlier in 7:4-8.

Revelation 14:4a   These are the ones who have not been defiled with women, for they have kept themselves chaste.

The word “defiled” is used only three times in the Bible.

1 Corinthians 8:7   However, not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.

Revelation 3:4   But you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their garments; and they will walk with Me in white, for they are worthy.

2 Cor. 7:1   Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

To “defile themselves with women” could be anything outside of the proper boundaries of marriage.

14:8   The word “immoralities” is used 12 times in Revelation referring to both the sexual and spiritual. Sexual immorality will flood the end time society. The LGBTQ movement in the world today is aggressively and successfully accepted as a normal lifestyle. Children are now taught in school that it is normal, moral, and acceptable. Those opposing are considered narrow-minded, bigoted, and immoral. Sexual morality has also pretty much vanished among all people. Couples living together without marriage has become very common.

14:4   The word “chaste” is translated “virgin” in other translations. The Greek word in the NASB everywhere else (13 times) is translated “virgin,” always referring to women except the following.

2 Corinthians 11:2-3   For I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy; for I betrothed you to one husband, so that to Christ I might present you as a pure virgin. But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ.

Revelation 14:4b These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes.

Following the Lamb wherever he goes was not Israel’s way until the time recorded in this chapter; rather, throughout history they have belligerently denied Jesus as the Christ.

14:4c   These have been purchased from among men as first fruits to God and to the Lamb.

First fruits – Israel is Yahweh’s first fruits.

Jeremiah 31:1-40   This is the great prophecy of Yahweh’s promise to Israel that begins to manifest in Revelation 14 when Jesus returns. Israel is Yahweh’s first fruit; the Gentiles were added onto them.

Romans 11:1ff

Isaiah 59:20-21   "A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob," declares Yahweh. "As for Me, this is My covenant with them," says Yahweh: "My Spirit which is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your offspring, nor from the mouth of your offspring's offspring," says Yahweh, "from now and forever."

The children of Israel will come again into their country, and David will rule over them as king. He will be a vice-regent with Jesus. The 12 apostles will each be over one of the twelve tribes.

Jeremiah 30:3, 7-9   For behold, days are coming,' declares Yahweh, 'when I will restore the fortunes of My people Israel and Judah.' Yahweh says, 'I will also bring them back to the land that I gave to their forefathers and they shall possess it.

'Alas! for that day is great, there is none like it; and it is the time of Jacob's distress, but he will be saved from it. 'It shall come about on that day,' declares Yahweh of hosts, 'that I will break his yoke from off their neck and will tear off their bonds; and strangers will no longer make them their slaves. 'But they shall serve Yahweh their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

Hosea 3:4-5; Isaiah 55:3-4; Ezekiel 34:23-34; 37:24-25

Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:24-30   The apostles will be over the 12 tribes.

Micah 7:18-20   Yahweh’s unchanging love for Israel is seen!

Revelation 14:5-7   These Israelite believers will preach the gospel during the Millennial Kingdom. One reason for the Millennial Kingdom is for the faithful to receive rewards by serving as kings and priests. Another reason for this time is to fulfill the covenant Yahweh made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
