5: Jesus, God’s Messiah

Jesus is the Messiah.

A messiah is someone anointed by God to rule over the world and usher in the messianic age.

Messiah is interchangeable with “king of the Jews,” “son of David,” and “son of God.”

Son of God has two meanings: (1) a synonym for messiah and (2) that God is Jesus’ actual father.

Notwithstanding translation bias, John 8.58 does not imply that Jesus claimed to be the “I AM” of Exodus 3.14.

If Jesus is both Messiah and God, his divinity would eclipse his anointed role.
