God has blessed you. Your relationship with God is the single most important aspect of your life, and He is the initiator of this relationship. He loved and called you plus placed the desire within you to love and respond to Him. In our culture, success is measured by how busy we are accomplishing something. We tend to feel useless or worthless if we are not achieving. Yet, Scripture clearly indicates God’s desire for us – “I want you to love me above all else.” When we fail to realize that loving God is much more important than any accomplishment, we miss the basic purpose of our life; hence, nothing seems right no matter what we do.
The essence of the entire Old Testament is captured in the Shema:
Deuteronomy 6:4 and 5
Hear, O Israel! Yahweh is our God, Yahweh is one! You shall love Yahweh our God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
When we have Him first, then we will accomplish that which is meaningful and valuable to Him and to us. Our heavenly Father deserves the honor of first place in our hearts and life.
Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created.
God being Who and what He is and we being who and what we are, the only right relation between us is one of full lordship on His part and compete submission on ours. We owe Him every honor that it is in our power to give Him. When given the choice between God or human relationships, God or money, God or work, God or recognition, etc., most have selected the latter and not God. The only honor we should ever be concerned with is that which we give to Yahweh and what He gives to us. If we honor Him, He will honor us. Even with honor, He is the initiator for He first loved and called us. How honoring is that?
Jesus asked a very pointed question with, “How can you believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from God alone?” If our desire is honor from men and not God, we cannot believe! God is worthy of all our love and honor.
