Notes:

Ephesians 3:14-20 The understanding of the spirit dwelling in the inner man, Christ dwelling in your heart, the love of Christ, being filled with all the fullness of God, etc. is beyond the comprehension of the human mind. We should pray this prayer.

In his teaching at the last supper, Jesus said the holy spirit, the paraclete, would bear witness of him. On the day of Pentecost, this spirit was given.

The spirit of God has been since the beginning (Genesis 1:2). God's nature, His influence, His presence, has been since the beginning. His spirit was upon men, and He worked with them throughout history. The spirit did not come with Jesus Christ. However, something unique happened once Jesus ascended to the right hand of God.

John 14:12-20; 15:26; 16:7, 13-14

The paraclete the helper, comforter, counselor. This is the spirit of truth. In Christ's absence, the spirit of Christ is here to guide and direct.

Acts 16:6-7 The holy spirit, the spirit of Jesus

Romans 8:9-11 The spirit of God, the spirit of Christ, Christ in you

I John 3:23-24 He abides in us, by the spirit he has given us.

Now that the Messiah has ascended to the right hand of God, his spirit can dwell in his people and direct the Church. This was not understood. It was part of the great mystery of God.

I Corinthians 2:6-16

Ephesians 3:3-12

Colossians 1:25-29 It is Christ in you, the hope of glory!

Ephesians 1:15-23
