Notes:

Genesis 2:16 & 17; Leviticus 17:11 & 14

The words "shadow," "example," "figure," "type," and "pattern" are all used to describe the relationship the Old Covenant has to the New, especially regarding Jesus the Christ. The High Priest, the tabernacle, its ordinances, and service was to be a figure that looked toward Jesus Christ's sacrificial death as well as man's ultimate redemption and reconciliation to God.

Review tabernacle layout

Hebrews 8:1 Rather than the High Priest entering into the holy of holies, Jesus has entered into the heavens and is seated at the right hand of God.

Verse 6 Moses was the mediator of the Old Covenant. Jesus is the mediator of a BETTER covenant with BETTER promises.

Verses 7-11 The better promises of the New Covenant.

Verse 13 In Paul's day the Jews were still embracing the Old. Hebrews is written to help them move forward into the New.

Hebrews 9:5 Cherubim -- Genesis 3:24 In the tabernacle signifying mankind is kept out. DO NOT ENTER!

Verse 10 The time (season) of the reformation began when Christ died on the cross and is fulfilled when he returns.

OLD COVENANT NEW COVENANT
Sinful high priest Christ, the High Priest
Man's tabernacle Perfect tabernacle
Animal Blood Jesus' blood
Holy of holies The Holy Place, heaven
Partial and temporary redemption Eternal redemption
