Genesis 4:1-7 Everyone always has a choice to live rightly for God or to sin. We have free will, which neither God nor the devil can violate.

Genesis 4:8-16 Cain suffered consequences for sin that are a type for sinners today.

His work would never bring satisfaction or be compensative to the energy he put forward. He never had a place that was his home, where he fit in and belonged. He would be hated and marked by everyone else. He was not allowed into the presence of God. He was to have a long miserable life!

He made his choice after God warned him. We have the same choice today: the way of Cain or the way of Christ.

Deuteronomy 30:11- 20 Over the span of a person's life, he is given the opportunity to make a few or a handful of choices that will influence his entire life. At these crossroads, we exercise our free will and shape our own future.

James 1:5 God's wisdom is needed at such times.

Joshua 24:14-28 We must choose to serve the Lord and as His ambassadors, to help others to repent and make the same choice.

Galatians 5:22 A distinction is made between controlled behavior and self-control.

We must choose not to look at our own inner strength or willpower, but rather continually to remind ourselves of our weakness, knowing that when we are weak, we are made strong (II Corinthians 12:10). As we are in this state of submission and reliance, the holy spirit provides the ability of controlling ourselves as we move under the power of the spirit.
