The Resurrection Foretold

I Corinthians 15:6 Over 500 people were eyewitnesses of his resurrection.

The Scriptures themselves provide compelling evidence of the resurrected Christ. Luke 18:31-33; I Corinthians 15:3 & 4; Acts 26:22-23; Luke 24:13-32

There are Old Testament prophecies and types, which clearly foretell not only the suffering and death of the Messiah, but also that he would be raised from the dead. Example: Jonah (Jonah 1:17; 2:1ff; Matthew 12:40).

Abraham -- Foundation for faith

Genesis 13:15; 15:5-8; 17:5-20; (Romans 4:17-24); Genesis 22:1-18; (Hebrews 11:17-19)

Hebrews 11:19 (NIV) Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death.

Abraham anticipated and believed in the death and resurrection of the promised Messiah. The God of Abraham will bring to pass what he had promised, and it will be fulfilled in the resurrection. Exodus 3:6; Matthew 22:23-32; Luke 20:27-38; Luke 1:54 and 55; 72 and 73; John 8:51-58.

The First Fruits offering

During the Feast of Unleavened bread there were two significant offerings -- the Passover Lamb and the First Fruits offering. Jesus was the Passover lamb of God who was sacrificed for us (I Cor 5:7).

The second offering was the first fruits offering. (Leviticus 23:10-12). It signified the powerful strong hand of the Lord's deliverance (Exodus 13:1ff -- verses 3, 9, 14, 16).

Jesus was the firstborn from the dead, and offered himself as this offering (John 20:17). He was the first fruits from the dead. Others will follow. I Corinthians 15:20-23; Colossians 1:18; Acts 26:23; Revelation 1:5; Hebrews 12:23.

The Psalms David and other psalmists spoke prophetically about the resurrection from the dead. Psalms 49:6-15; Psalms 16:9 and 10.

The Prophet Isaiah Isaiah the prophet also spoke regarding the resurrection from the dead. Isaiah 53:8-11

He shall see his seed He shall prolong his days

Isaiah 53:11a (NIV) After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life,

Matthew 27:62-66; 28:1-6 The resurrection fulfilled!!!
