Notes:

Matthew 6:33 Seek first the Kingdom of God.

Many things in life can consume our time, our attention, and our heart's desire, but if we set our minds to seek after God and His kingdom, we will have the proper perspective to live in this world and to serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Three examples are given in this context:
  1. * Matthew 6:19-21 -- Your treasure
What do you treasure? What is your heart's desire (Psalm 37:4)?
  2. * Matthew 6:22-23 -- Your eye
Where are you looking? What is the focus of your life?
  3. * Matthew 6:24 -- Your service
Whom do you serve? What is at the core of your service?

Matthew 6:25-34 What do you pursue? What is first in your life? If you could choose one thing in your life that is a priority above all else, what would it be?

Ecclesiastes 1:12-17 -- A pursuit of wisdom is vanity and striving after wind.

Ecclesiastes 2:1-17 -- All of the work and pursuits of this life will not bring satisfaction.

Ecclesiastes 12:8 -- All is vanity without God.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 -- The conclusion is fear God and keep His commandments.

Luke 10:38-42 Martha was serving. She was doing work, but she was missing the one thing that was needful. Mary had chosen this one thing. She was listening to the Lord's word.

Philippians 3:3-8 Paul had worldly credentials. Yet, all these pursuits he counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

Philippians 3:9-11 Paul's pursuit was in light of the Hope -- the Kingdom of God -- that he might attain to the resurrection from the dead.

Philippians 3:12-14 Paul did this one thing. He pressed toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus!
