Have Faith in Yahweh
By Rev. John Cortright on 10/09/2011

James 5:7-11 Be patient. The Lord is coming. The prophets spoke in the name of Yahweh. Often times, they were rejected and treated as outcasts for their stand, but they remained faithful to Yahweh. Patiently, they reaped the fruits of their faith.

James 5:14

The name of Yahweh is powerful. Today, we can invoke the name of Yahweh’s Son, Jesus. His name is also powerful. In Hebrew, his name is Yeshua (Yehoshua/Y’shua) which means “Yahweh is Salvation.” The name Jesus, Yeshua, bears the name of God, Yahweh. There is a name of the Father, and there is a name of the son (Mt 28:19, Rev 3:12, 14:2). When we pray in the name of Jesus, the Father is glorified (John 14:13).

James 5:15-16
The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.

James 5:17-18
– Elijah!

I Kings 17:1 Elijah stood before Yahweh, the God of Israel, during evil times. He had the word of Yahweh: “No rain for three years!”

I Kings 17:2-7
– He followed the word of Yahweh and lived by a brook. He was fed by ravens!

I Kings 17:8-16
– A miracle by having faith in the word of Yahweh

I Kings 17:17-24
– He raised the dead through prayer, having faith in Yahweh.

I Kings 18:1-18
– Again, he is following the word of Yahweh. He’s not doing his own thing. This took boldness and courage. Elijah goes straight to the king who had already had other prophets of Yahweh killed.

I Kings 18:19-39
They had to choose. Who is God − Yahweh or Baal? In the end, it was obvious: “Yahweh, He is God! Yahweh, He is God!”

I Kings 18:40-46

For three and a half years, no rain fell. Elijah had faith in Yahweh. He prayed as he was commanded and followed the word of Yahweh. This was effective prayer!!! It accomplished much! We today can have faith in Yahweh as the prophets of old did, and we can have faith in His Son, Yeshua the Messiah.
