Jesus: The Son of God
By Rev. John Cortright on 12/21/2014

Jesus is the Messiah, the one who fulfilled the words of all the prophets. He is the one who was to come. He is the prophet like unto Moses, the priest like unto Melchizedek, and the king like unto David. He was born of a woman, a human being, from the line of King David, of the tribe of Judah.

Luke 1:26-33

This one born of Mary would receive the throne of his Father David. His kingdom would have no end. He would be great and would be called the Son of the Most High. This angelic declaration to Mary is a direct fulfillment of the great messianic promise given to King David (I Sam 7:9-14; I Chr 17:8-13). God would be the Father of this future descendent of David. He would be God’s son. (Ps 2:2, 6-7; Ps 89:3-4, 27-28).

Luke 1:34-35
“How can this be?”
Matthew 1:18-20 – The birth (GK genesis) of Jesus
• The holy spirit will come upon you.
• The power of the Most High will overshadow you.
• The child conceived in her is of the holy spirit.

…And for that reason the holy child shall be called the Son of God.

– Jesus was both the Son of man, a descendent of David, and the Son of God, conceived of the holy spirit.
