Acts 6:1-5 The requirements: 1. Good reputation, 2. Full of spirit, and 3. Wisdom

Stephen was a man full of faith and of the holy spirit.

7-8 Stephen was full of grace and power. He walked with the manifestations of the spirit.

10 Could not cope with the wisdom and spirit

1 Corinthians 12:1 The word “spiritual” is the Greek pneumatikos which means spiritual matters or spiritual things as translated in Romans 15:27 and 1 Corinthians 9:11. This section deals with much more than spiritual gifts.

4-6 Varieties of gifts, ministries, and effects

7-12 contrasts 4-6

Vs 4 – Same spirit; 6 – everyone; 8 – same spirit; 9 – same spirit; vs 11 – one and the same spirit

Word of Wisdom – James 1:5

Word of knowledge – 1 Corinthians 2:12-14

Faith – Matthew 21:21-22; Romans 12:3 For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith.

Gifts of Healing, Miracles, Prophecy, Discerning of Spirits, Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues

Acts 6:7-12 Those opposed to God tried to stop the movement of His word. What or who inspired these men to lie about Stephen?

13 Lies and false accusations. Satan is the father of lies, and he is called the accuser.

51-60 The devil does everything in his power to blind the minds of people so that they do not hear the gospel.

2 Corinthians 4:4; Ephesians 2:1-3; and 6:12 We must always remember the fight is spiritual.

Acts 8:1 What do you think the Jerusalem Gazette printed about Paul and the Christians? What was behind Paul’s actions?

4 Therefore, the response to the evil one’s attempts to stop the moving of the word was to more boldly and aggressively preach the gospel.

8 One man with light in his eyes, walking by the spirit, changed the whole community.

13 Even the main man who worked for the devil to deceive the people believed. We can and do have impact.

18 Simon saw the manifestations of the spirit for he could not see the spirit in that it is invisible. Speaking in tongues, prophecy, healings, demons cast out are things that could be seen.

23 Peter was full of the spirit.

25 We want more, much more.

35 God was at work in the world and is today also.
