If, according to the Bible, we are a new creation in Christ, with the old having passed away and the new having come, why do we still struggle to express this new life in our daily living? Our new life is spiritually oriented toward God, giving us both the ability and the desire to live according to His will. Yet our minds are still influenced by deeply ingrained, self-centered patterns and selfish desires. These patterns do not automatically disappear when we are born again; they must be confronted and replaced through a deliberate commitment to renew our thinking and change our behavior.
Many self-help courses say, “change your thinking and change your life.” The Bible says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Christian renewal is not simply learning to think more positivity, rather, with God’s help and the spiritual power of His words recorded in the Scriptures, it is a transformation that aligns with the new spiritual life we have with Christ.
