John 9:35-41; John 10:1-18

John 9

Jesus, as he leaves the Temple area, tells the man born blind to go wash in the Pool of Siloam [Sent];

The man goes and is healed.

Pharisees get involved, question the man, are upset that healing took place on the sabbath.

Man is just grateful; Pharisees excommunicate him.

Jesus hears that the man is being condemned by the Pharisees and tracks him down.

Jesus confronts the Pharisees who gave man born blind a hard time.

10:1. Door = gate; fold = courtyard or corral; open air, walls of stone

“Thief” = kleptēs – implies stealth

10:6. “Figure of speech” – proverb, “a short symbolic narrative”

10:8. “All who came before me” is referring to false messiahs, false prophets, selfish leaders, etc.

10:11. Shepherd: poimēn  =  “one who tends to”

Used metaphorically of a person’s care for others

Ephesians 4:11

English word “pastor” derived from Latin: “pastor

Ps 23:1-2

Ezekiel 34:1-4; Jeremiah 23:1-5; Ezekiel 34:23-24

John 10:11. “…the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

John 10:15. “…I lay down my life for the sheep.”

John 10:17. “…I lay down my life.”

John 10:18. “…I lay it down….”
