“How are you doing?” he asked. The response, “I am very busy so I’m doing good.” Conversations like this one are not uncommon in our very busy world today. We have connected busyness with doing well as if it were some kind of virtue. With all the advance information and communication technology available, it seems we should be less busy. As we begin a New Year, taking time to consider how we spend our time and what keeps us so busy would be prudent.

Romans 13:8-14
– The most important concern is always love. How do we spend the precious moments of our life, centered in selfishness or love?

1John 4:11
– Debt promotes slavery the only thing we should owe is love because of God’s love for us we owe it to love others.

1Thessalonians 5:1-11
– We are to “awaken from the sleep” of indifference, hard heartedness, or antipathy that selfishness brings. We are tempted to waste our lives busied with activity of nothingness. Actives that waste our life and time are often center in self and not love for God or our fellowman. The salvation that will be realized when Christ returns is closer now than when we first believed.

1Peter 4:7-11
– Sober is possessing properly controlled faculties, even-tempered, well balanced. Time is needed for prayer, meditation, reading, serving and giving.

Ephesians 5:1-18
– Dissipation is the process of slowly disappearing or becoming less; the act of using all or a lot of money, time, etc., in a foolish way; behavior that shows you are interested only in pleasure, money, etc.

19-21
– Be busy in godliness and helping others to do the same.

1Corinthians 7:25-35
– Live for God.

Isaiah 58:13 and 14
– The Sabbath was not just a Mosaic ordinance it is far more as it was instituted at the creation as a pattern for godly living.
