John 20:30-31
The signs recorded in the Gospel of John were written down so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ [Messiah], the Son of God.
Isaiah the prophet spoke of a time when the Messiah would come. He would cause the blind to see
(Isaiah 29:18; 35:5-6a; 42:7).
Luke 7:20-22
John the Baptist asked if Jesus was the Expected One.
“Go and report to John what you have seen and heard: the blind receive sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have the gospel preached to them.”
John 9:1-6
This was not something Jesus invented. He was doing “the work of Him who sent” him. There is not a technique for healing the blind. Jesus worked as the Father worked in him.
Jesus healed other blind people, but there is not one particular technique.
- Matthew 9:27-31 Two blind men asked for mercy. Jesus asked about their faith and touched their eyes
- Matthew 12:22 The man was demon possessed, blind, and mute – Jesus healed him.
- Matthew 15:30 Blind and others were cast at Jesus’ feet. He healed them.
- Matthew 20:29-34 Two blind men – Jesus asked them what they wanted. He touched their eyes.
- Matthew 21:14 Blind came to him in the temple. He healed them.
- Mark 8:22-25 Blind man – Jesus led him out &spat in his eyes, then laid hands on his eyes.
- Mark 10:46-52 Blind Bartimaeus – Jesus told him his faith made him well.
- John 5:2-19 Blind and other sick at pool of Bethesda – Jesus healed a man who had been ill 38 years. He was working as the Father worked.
John 9:6-7
Jesus applied clay to his eyes and gave him a simple command: “Go, wash, in the pool of Siloam.” The man obeyed the words of Jesus. Jesus had just come from the temple (John 8:59). The pool of Siloam was in the lower part of Jerusalem in the city of David.
John 9:8-12 The neighbors question who he was and how he could now see.
John 9:13-17 They bring him to the Pharisees who question him.
John 9:18-23 The Pharisees question his parents.
John 9:24-34 The Pharisees question him a second time and then put him out.
John 9:35-41 Jesus finds him, and he sees Jesus for the first time. “Lord, I believe!”
