Hope for a World in Need

The scriptures describe three distinct ages regarding our planet.

The old world that existed prior to Noah's flood.

The current earth that we dwell on today.

The new heaven and earth that is yet to come.

Psalm 24:1 The earth belongs to God.

Isaiah 45:5-12; 17-23 God is God! We are not to contend with our maker.

Isaiah 46:9-10 God declares the end from the beginning.

Genesis 1:31; 2:4-6; Isaiah 45:18 God created a world that was perfect.

However, due to the sin of man, the earth upon which mankind lives suffered the judgment of God.

Genesis 3:17-18 The ground became cursed

Genesis 6:11-13 The flood brought catastrophic changes to the world.

Genesis 7:11 The fountains of the great deep were broken up and the windows of heaven were opened.

Genesis 7:19-20 – Imagine the devastation!

Romans 8:20-22 We still suffer the ramifications of this judgment today
Matthew 24:3, 6-8 Sorrows = birth pangs. We are in the last days.

II Peter 2:5 — The world before the flood was the "old world". That world is gone.

II Peter 3:5-7 The old world was destroyed by water.

II Peter 3:8-9 Not that anyone should perish, but that all men would repent.

II Peter 3:10-12 The current world will be destroyed by fire.

The book of Revelation provides more details regarding the coming destruction.

Rev 6:12-14; 8:7; 8:8-9; 8:10; 9:18; 11:13;16:17

God has foretold us the things that will happen to the earth. It is absolute. The earth itself bares witness of this truth, and all the elements are in place, waiting for the day of the Lord.

But this is not the end.

II Peter 3:13 — There is a promise of a new heaven and a new earth!

Act 3:19-21 — There will be a restoration of all things

Matthew 19:28 — This time period is called the "regeneration"

All creation yearns for the coming day of Christ!

I Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:1-11

We have a certain hope and a firm consolation in a sea of speculation. Let us repent of evil in our lives and let us with a resolute conviction live for God and serve him with godly fear.
