Psalm 100 – This Psalm expresses the attitude of heart we should have when we serve Yahweh.
Serve Yahweh – with gladness
Come before Him – with joyful singing
Enter His gates – with thanksgiving
And His courts – with praise
“It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves.”
God made man. The idea of life itself came from Him. We didn’t originate the idea of being born. We had little to do with being born the first time.
So too, with the new creation in Christ, it is not of ourselves that we receive eternal life. It is by way of God’s sacrifice – the gift of His Son.
Romans 5:6-8
We were helpless. God demonstrated His love toward us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. What should be our response to such incredible love? Serve – Romans 12:1, 6-13.
The theme of service out of gratitude for what has been done through Jesus Christ can be seen throughout the New Testament Epistles:
2 Corinthians 5:14-15 – The love of Christ controls/constrains us. Live for the one who died for us.
Ephesians 2:1-10 – It is the gift, the offering, of God – not of ourselves.
Ephesians 4:1-2 Therefore walk in a manner worthy of this great calling.
Ephesians 5:18-20 – Always giving thanks in the name of Jesus Christ to God the Father
Colossians 1:12-14 – Give thanks to the Father, who qualified us to share in the inheritance. He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the Kingdom of His beloved Son.
Colossians 2:13-14 – We were dead in trespasses and sins. Christ cancelled out these things at the cross.
Colossians 3:1-4 – Since we have died with Christ, we should now live through him.
Colossians 3:14-17 – Be thankful, serve, giving thanks through him to God the Father.
Colossians 3:23-24 – Do it heartily, as for the Lord, rather than for men.
