When something or someone is said to be “inspired”, it is often meant that there is an external creative impulse that is the basis for motivation. But when we say that the Scriptures are “inspired by God”, it means that they are not ultimately derived from human intellect or will, but are from God.
2 Peter 1:20-21
“Moved” (pherō): people were “inspired” by God’s spirit to write according to God’s intention and will.
The emergence of Scripture was not a human decision or invention. Scripture owes its existence to the will of God.
2 Timothy 3:16
“God-breathed” (theopneustos): Scriptures owe their origin, nature, and distinct qualities to a divine source—God.
