Psalm 32:5 Acknowledge sin, stop hiding, and confess transgressions.
1 John 1:8-10 “Confess” is the Greek homologeo and literally means “same word.” What you say with your mouth (inner talk) corresponds to the truth in the Word and to your heart.
Ephesians 4:25 – “Put away lying, speak truth one with another.”
Homologeo – Words of your mouth = what is in your heart = the truth of the Bible. Your words are not empty, superficial, shallow, or feigned.
Hebrews 11:13 This is what they said; this is what they believed.
Hebrews 13:15 “Thanks” is homologeo, so it means confession of His name.
Roman 10:9 – As we confess with our mouth, we solidify in our heart. There is a strong connection between confession and belief which is not absolute but is consistent. We should be vitally concerned about what we say.
Hebrews 3:1; 4:14 Confess that Jesus Christ is your high priest.
Biblical confession and positive affirmation are not the same; rather, most often they are the opposite. Positive affirmations are often directed toward self, not toward God’s Word. In such cases, people build castles in the sky.
When we confess evil, contradictions to the Word, negatives, not only do we root them into our hearts, but we inform the devil of what we are thinking. He cannot read your mind, so he does not know if his suggestions are effective until we speak.
Psalm 71:15 and 24 Speak His words that praise Him.
Proverbs 13:3; 21:23 We often think of proverbs like this referring to the effect our words have on other people but even more on ourselves.
Proverbs 12:18 and 19; 15:4; 18:20-23 We must not only claim God’s Word, but also learn to speak or confess His word because it is very powerful. We confess our faith in God’s Word. We must be careful not to get lost in confessing what everyone else confesses, the daily news.
Sometimes when we confess with our mouths things pondered, they become cemented in to our heart and reality. This is true with both the negative and positive.
I can remember much more biblical information than other information because most often what I study and learn I speak to others and or teach it thereby solidifying it in my mind.
