1 Samuel 16:7 Jesse’s son David was the one God chose because of his heart.

1 Chronicles 28:9
– Many years later, at the end of David’s life, he exhorted his son, Solomon.

1 Chronicles 29:17-19
– When David anointed Solomon before the people, his prayer reflected the importance of the heart.

2 Chronicles 6:30
– God alone knows the hearts of men.

Jeremiah 17:9 and 10
– God searches the heart and deals with man accordingly.

Psalms 10:17; 27:14; 73:26; 86:11; 119:32; 141:4; 51:10


Ephesians 4:17-19
The focus of a man’s eyes determines what is in his heart. The eyes are the windows of the heart. We are encouraged to have our focus upon God and not on lust…. The Bible contains record after record of God dealing with man according to their hearts. Those with good hearts receive His blessings, while those with hard or evil hearts, His cursing.

Exodus 4:21; 7:3, 13, and 14, 22; 8:15, 19, 32; 9:12, 34, and 35; 10:1, 20, 27; 11:10; 14:4, 8
Pharaoh’s heart was hardened.

Matthew 6:22
– To avoid hardheartedness, we must shun sensual desires and eagerly pursue godliness. We must remain focused on one thing and not be divided between God and the world in which we live. If we value the things of God, the things of God will be in our hearts.

Psalm 119:2, 10, 34, 58, 69, and 145
– David stood out because of his whole-heartedness.

Psalm 38:1-10
– David’s genuine, sincere devotion to God along with his mournful core – penetrating repentance for sin – are seen in this psalm.
