John 3:16; I John 2:25
We have been promised eternal life through Jesus Christ.

The words “eternal Life” are two Greek words ionios zoe.
KJV – 26 times =“eternal life;” 10 times =“everlasting life;” 4 times =“life everlasting”
NASB – “eternal life” every time

When does one receive eternal life?
Three different Christian views:
• At the time of death
• At the time of one’s conversion – confession of Jesus as Lord
• At Christ’s return

John 5:25-29; 6:39-40, 54; Luke 18:28-30
Those who believe on Jesus will have eternal life; and on the last day, the graves will open, and the dead will be raised to life. Eternal life comes in “the age to come.”

Ezekiel 37:11-14; Daniel 12:1-2; Acts 24:14-15; I Thessalonians 4:13-17; Revelation 20:4-14
This was Israel’s hope – a future resurrection of the dead.

Genesis 1:26-28; 2:7-9, 16-17; 3:17-19
Man was made in the image of God. The word “spirit” is not in the text. Three types of trees: trees pleasant to the eyes and good for food, tree of life, and tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The fruit of the tree defines what the tree provides. After Adam’s sin, man no longer could eat of the tree of life and “live forever.”

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that the “spirit is eternal life” or that we have an “eternal life spirit.” However, the “spirit” is essential to our walk today. Ephesians 1:13-14

I Corinthians 15:21-13; Romans 2:4-11; 5:12, 15, 18, 21; 6:8-23
To those who by perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality – they get eternal life. As one man brought sin and death into the world, so, too, through one perfect man came righteousness and eternal life.

Matthew 24:9-13; John 6:27; I Peter 1:3-9
Endure until the end. It’s not a walk of perfection. We now walk in this grace through faith. If we fall short, we have an advocate with the Father, and the blood of Jesus cleanses us (I John 1:5-9).

Revelation 2:1-3, 7; 22:1-2, 11-14
Those who overcome will have access to the tree of life and will live forever.
