Ephesians 2:1 People are physically alive but spiritually dead. The spiritual life is where God and Jesus Christ live and where man finds purpose, direction, and fulfillment. A superior, abundant existence is readily available but oblivious to most.

2:2
Everyone, except those who have Christ, walks or lives according to the course of this world without any consideration that there is another superior realm and way to live.

We are captives without knowing, shackled by evil yet unaware, never stopping to think about the insanity that is ours.

A spiritual prince (ruler, chief, leader) has authority, control, power over the atmosphere that mutually affects all of humanity. The devil is the god of this age.

The sons of disobedience are those in the world who are without Christ.

2:3
As those subjected to the evil prince, we had no moral compass to govern and guide us other than what we wanted or felt. Our lives were filled with the works of the flesh.

Galatians 5:19-21; Romans 13:11-14

Ephesians 2:3-6
For those who repent, there is another way, a new life.

Colossians 1:13 and 14
With Christ, we who were dead are made alive, delivered.

Galatians 5:22-24
The new life with the new awareness provides love, joy, and peace.
Ephesians 2:7 Not only is there a better life now but also eternal life when he returns.

2:8 -12
When the day is done for those without Christ, despondency is their horrible plight. Nothing works outside of God. Feelings of hopelessness, discouragement, dejection, depression drown the Christ-less one to self-medicating such as overeating, fantasies, lust, drugs, shopping, sports, TV – vicarious living (result of his imagined participation in an experience not his own).

2:17-22
We have a new life now.

2Corinthins 5:14-16
In Christ, we jump ship from the world; we are out of the rat race. We get off the merry-go-round, break the chains.

17
We have a new life.

Ephesians 4:17-ff
Walk in newness of life and enjoy life with God now, and enter the Kingdom when it comes.
