- Engage an idea.
- “Hmm…. I think I get what you’re saying, but can you tell me more about _____?”
- Admit agreement (where you can).
- “I can see where you are coming from, but do you think there is any other way to look at it? …What might that be?”
- “That’s a good point, but can you help me understand _____?”
- “Hmm…. I think I get what you’re saying, but can you tell me more about _____?”
- Evangelize with truth.
- “So, I’ve spent some time thinking about this too. Can I share a thought with you?”
- “Well, I don’t know if I would agree with all of that, but can I share one thing that I do know?”
- Explore their interests.
