As demonstrated by how we cringe when we see someone disrespect another, God designed humans to crave and expect a certain amount of basic respect. As Christians we should live in a respectable way and show respect to others, even when they haven’t earned it. God calls us to be respectful.

1 Peter 2:17; Matthew 7:12 We all need respect. We need others to value us.

2 Samuel 10:1-5 A disrespectful act can devastate. When the king of Ammon insulted King David’s emissaries, the result was a war with thousands of causalities.

1 Samuel 24:1-22
What you do affects whether others will respect you. Saul gave in to jealousy and paranoia, while David showed respect which resulted in him receiving respect.

Although hard at times, showing respect is an important part of your Christian walk with God. The Bible calls you to respect the elderly (Lev 19:32), governing authorities (Rom 13:7), your parents (Ex 20:12), your spouse (Eph 5:33), church leaders (1 Thes 5:12), and even critics of Christianity (1 Pet 3:15-16).

Acts 5:33-39
If you are well respected, you may have opportunities to influence others for good. Gamaliel is a prime example of someone using his standing to advocate for good.
