Acts 1:1-5 Unquestionably, the baptism of the spirit is held up as the more
significant. John stated it himself four times.
John 1:29-34 The baptism of John came to an end. He did not baptize people
in the name of Jesus the Christ because he did not know Jesus was the Christ until
this point. The sacrifice of Christ did not happen in the lifetime of John. The book
of Acts does record water baptism, which has to be understood, but first we must
acknowledge the distinction between John's baptism and the baptism of spirit.
If we conclude that water baptism can provide forgiveness of sins, then Jesus did
not need to die so that we could be washed in his blood.
Acts 1:5 Did Jesus water baptize his disciples? He said that John did so and he
(Jesus) did not. The baptism of Jesus Christ is with spirit.
Acts 1:5; Luke 24:47-49; Acts 2:33, 39 The promise of the Father had everything
to do with the baptism of the holy spirit.
Acts 1:7 and 8 Power and witness
Acts 2:1-4 Speaking in tongues was one of the things that the spirit empowered
them to do.
Acts 2:6; I Corinthians 14:2 The speaker did not understand, but the listener did.
Acts 2:14-21 Peter explained that the baptism of the spirit was what Joel
prophesied regarding. From there, he is able to jump into why they had been
given this promise from the Father. As Jesus said, the spirit would help them to be
witnesses unto him.
Acts 2:22-33 He remains consistent to the topic of what just happened the
baptism of the holy spirit.
Acts 2:37-40 The context demands we conclude that the baptism in the name
of Jesus Christ here is regarding the holy spirit.
Acts 8:4-13 It seems apparent that Philip is baptizing in the name of Jesus with
water (36-40).
Acts 8:14-18 They were concerned that they receive the holy spirit. We can
conclude that water baptism does not ensure a person is baptized in spirit.
Acts 10:43-48 We can conclude that water baptism is not required to receive
the holy spirit. Peter felt it was necessary afterwards. They spoke in tongues.
Acts 18:24 – 19:6 Manifestations were commonplace.
1 Corinthians 12:1-11 We should seek to have these things in our lives.
