Ephesians 1:19-23
When God raised Christ from the dead and seated him at His right hand, he was given ultimate rule and authority. In this position, he is the head of the Body of Christ. He is not just a “figurehead;” he is working through his church to bring about the will of the Father.
Just as a human body functions, deriving its instruction from the head, so too, the church is to be in subjection to Christ for leadership and direction.
Colossians 2:6-7
We are to walk in Him. Once we confess Jesus as Lord, we are to be in subjection to his direction.
Colossians 2:9-10
He is the head over all rule and authority.
Colossians 2:18-19
When we hold fast to the head (Christ), we grow with the growth that is from God.
What defrauds you from this spiritual growth: selfishness, self-abasement, taking a stand on visions, being inflated by your fleshly mind?
The Body of Christ has many members, but it is one body with one head.
Ephesians 4:8-16; Romans 12:3-8; I Corinthians 12:12-31
The key to hold fast truly to the head, to know that you are truly being led by Christ, and not to be swayed into selfishness is to walk the more excellent way – walk in love.
What does it look like to function in the Body of Christ, being directed by the head? How can you tell if you are being directed by Christ? Are you walking in love?
I Corinthians 13:4-7 – This is how love looks.
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
May we hold fast to our head, Christ, and walk in love.
