Lately I have been needing extra comfort. At times my soul had been sad and weary. When it gets that way my old ways of coping are to control the situation and figure out a way through it. But, when I come to my godly senses, I turn my eyes upward to Yahweh and His Son, Jesus, sitting at His right hand. My comfort comes from Yahweh. Recorded in the Old Testament, Jehoshaphat prayed to Yahweh out of his despair. His answer was in his prayer—to keep his eyes on Yahweh.
2 Chronicles 20:12. Our God, will You not judge them? For we have no might against this great multitude that comes against us, nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are on You.
My godly solutions all come from Yahweh. As Jehoshaphat received comfort from Yahweh, we can also. We keep our eyes on spiritual truth of Yahweh and then begin to heal and move forward with confidence and a comforted heart. Included in this article are several Scriptures that comfort and guide our weary hearts or encourage our peaceful hearts to keep going. May Yahweh bless you with comfort and strength as you read and meditate upon these *verses.
Jeremiah 33:6. But behold, I will bring it [city] health and healing, and I will heal them, and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace and truth.
This is written, of course, to the Hebrews. They were way off course and Yahweh is trying to wrangle them back into the sheepfold of His love. What comfort to know that Yahweh, the creator of all the universes and all that is in them, loves you and wants you to have not just some peace and truth, but an abundance of it. Be still and think of what an abundance of peace and truth may look like in your life. It is waiting for you.
Isaiah 43:1. But now this is what Yahweh who created you, Jacob, and He who formed you, Israel, says: “Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine.
Oh to belong! Oh to feel set apart by Yahweh AND that He knows your name! Yahweh knows you, your weaknesses and your strengths. He loves you and calls you to Him from the far pastures. Run to Him. Fear not because He sees and loves you and knows your name.
Isaiah 43:2. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned, and flame will not scorch you.
This has to remind us of Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah of the flaming furnace rescue, and the Israelites walking through the Red Sea. What glorious miracles Yahweh performed for those who were His people. The three young men were adamant about worshipping Yahweh; Israel not so much, yet He spared them, guided them, healed them, and delivered His promise of the new land. No matter what is in our path—riches, promotions, sadness, or pain—it will not overtake us if we keep our eyes on Yahweh and our Savior Jesus.
Isaiah 41:10. Do not be afraid, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Indeed, I will help you. Indeed, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.
Oh so wonderful. Yahweh’s right hand upholds us. Have you ever been helped up by a strong hand? I was all in a heap on a mechanical walkway and I saw this wonderfully strong man’s hand reach down to help me up when I could not even tell where my feet were. In one swoop I was upright. Yahweh does that for us. Remember the times He has done that for you.
Psalm 32:8. I will instruct you and teach you in the way that you are to walk. I will counsel you with My eye upon you.
Parents keep their eyes on their children to protect and guide them. Yahweh is like that with us. That watchful eye keeps us from harm and evil. Do we listen to His counsel or sluff it off? Meditate on how you can better listen to His wise counsel to find comfort.
Isaiah 30:21. and when you turn to the right hand and when you turn to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way. Walk in it.”
Yahweh spoke to me one time out in a pasture field. It was sunset and it was breathtaking. I still remember today what He told me to do. Thankfully I obeyed and continued to see the fruits of it today. Think on how you listen intently to His voice and His prompting and you obey. He calls you to Himself.
Isaiah 58:11. And Yahweh will guide you continually and satisfy your soul in dry places, and strengthen your bones, and you will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail.
Think of a watered garden. Everything is flourishing, vibrant, healthy. That is what we are like in His presence. And when drought or harsh weather hits, we do not fail.
Exodus 14:14. Yahweh will fight for you, and you—quiet down.
Anxious? Weary? Cannot lift a finger to help yourself? No one can fight for you like Yahweh. Go to Him for help—and let Him.
Philippians 4:19. And my God will supply your every need according to His riches in glory in connection with Christ Jesus.
What need do you or I have? Our biggest need is to remain in relationship to Yahweh and Jesus. To have Scripture on our minds 24/7 and speaking it to others. Yahweh will supply all our physical and spiritual needs so that we can go about teaching and preaching and healing His people. Calming comfort comes in great supply.
Deuteronomy 31:8. Yahweh, it is He who goes before you; He will be with you, He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not be afraid, and do not be dismayed.
Dismayed is a feeling that is caused by something unpleasant or unexpected that causes shock or alarm. A death, or serious injury, illness, or betrayal would be reasons for being dismayed. Yahweh tells us to not fear and not to dismay. He’s got our backs. He knows we will have pain and trials, but He is there to guide us. Let Him lead you through. Be comforted by His leading.
Joshua 1:9. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.
Ahh, dismay again along with fear. Instead, see yourself as strong and courageous. Stand tall with the army of evil at your feet. This is a commandment of Yahweh. He wins. Ask Yahweh to show you His strength. This is not a ‘one and done’ situation because Yahweh is with us always.
Psalm 91:5-6,9-10. You will not fear the terror by night, the arrow that flies by day nor the pestilence that walks in darkness, or the destruction that destroys at noon. For you O Yahweh, are my refuge. You have made the most High your habitation; no evil will come upon you, nor will any plague come near your tent.
There are so many things to meditate upon in these verses. I will just say that “for you, O Yahweh, are my refuge” is my takeaway. No earthly bunker can begin to compare. What is your takeaway?
Matthew 7:8. For everyone who keeps asking receives, and the one who keeps seeking finds, and to the one who keeps knocking the door will be opened.
Be comforted knowing He WANTS you to ask, seek and find. Go ahead now and ask and seek.
Matthew 7:11. So, if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more certainly will your Father who is in heaven give good gifts to those who ask Him?
Are we ready to receive comfort? Or are we like an unruly child that cannot allow himself to be comforted? Receive what Yahweh has as His gift to you through Jesus.
Jeremiah 33:3. Call to Me and I will answer you, and will show you great and hidden things that you do not know.
Everyone loves a mystery. But better yet we love the solving of the mystery. Let Yahweh take the doubts and confusion from your life. Ask Him and He will give you treasure chests of knowledge and wisdom. Be willing to call on Him and listen for His answer.
I like to think of how sure Yahweh’s promises are. They are not like human promises that are half-hearted ones, or ones we cannot bring to pass. Yahweh’s are the truth that I cling to. Think of those promises that you need to cling to at this time. Those needs can change day to day, but His promises never change.
I have included more verses for contemplation and meditation. There is an entire Bible of them. Find what comforts you. Meditate upon it, believe in it, trust it.
Romans 12:12,13. In regard to hope, rejoicing. In regard to hardships, persevere. In regard to prayer, continue steadfastly. In regard to the needs of the holy ones, share with them. In regard to hospitality, seek to show it.2 Corinthians 1:20. For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are “Yes,” that is why it is through Him we say “Amen!,” to the glory of God.Romans 8:28. Now we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him—for those who are the called ones in accordance with His purpose—Jeremiah 30:17. For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh, because they have called you an outcast, saying “It is Zion whom no one cares about.”Isaiah 53:5. But he was pierced for our transgressions, was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.Exodus 15:26. and He said, “If you will listen, yes, listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, and will do what is right in His eyes, and will pay attention to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will not bring upon you any of the diseases that I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am Yahweh your Healer.Isaiah 30:15. For thus said the Lord Yahweh, the Holy One of Israel, “You will be saved in returning and rest. Your strength will be in quietness and in confidence.”Psalm 37:7. Keep quiet before Yahweh and wait patiently for Him. Do not be agitated because of the person who makes his road prosper, because of the person who carries out wicked plans.Psalm 118:1. Give thanks to Yahweh, for He is good, for His covenant faithfulness endures forever.I Peter 5:10. And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who called you who are in union with Christ to His everlasting glory, will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
